How Mind Mapping Can Change Your Life and Business
Mind mapping your way to achieve a strategic goal can do wonders. It’s a great way to map out all the crazy voices in your head. When I was in school for my MBA, we had to do some mind mapping and brainstorming.
I find mind mapping to be a quick way to get your ideas on paper. A feasibility study or business plan is great but the first thing I do when I get an idea or when I am strategizing a new path for an existing organization is to create a simple mind map.
A mind map is a tool that helps you think, gather information/knowledge, and create ideas. Its easy for your brain to easily capture and remember ideas through the use of mind mapping.
Creating a mind map is easy in this case I created a simple one on a 5 by 7 postcard for by my organization.
The first thing is to place in the middle of that postcard exactly what you are thinking about it.
In this case, Designed Life is considered my central theme. Your topic or central theme can be a title, an idea, subject, a problem, a thought, a project, a business, or personal etc. The next is to create associations or topics, for designed life I had to come up with the list of outlets we currently use or plan to use to express our ideas and share our voice.
The next is the subject focus, since Designed Life is a platform I use to inspire others, mapping this out helps me not to lose focus on subjects we will focus on and not deviate from. I broke those down into topics that focuses on life, entrepreneurship, inspiration, stories, food, spirituality etc.
The next is the growth strategy how do we plan to grow all of the outlets mentioned.
Then to the methods we will use to send out our message which is still similar to the outlet.
The great thing about mind mapping is that you can literally make it out the way you want. It’s in your head.. there’s no specific formula to it. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want.
Mind mapping is also a great visual think and structure to your ideas or goals.
As we begin to design the life or business we crave for, let’s work on mind mapping and brainstorming our strategies for the new year.
Another mind mapping you can do is more personal. I believe in the “start now philosophy” of not wasting time to get things done. I also share daily on my social media platform.
In the image below you would see my start now strategy which lays out my 3 months, 1 year, 5 years, and lifetime goals. With each of these you can create a second mind map for that specific goal.
In order of priority I focused on the 3 months goal of losing weight. The goal is to lose weight, with that I listed the steps that I would have to take to make this happen.
My goal is to lose 20 lbs in 3 months, but how will I lose 20 Ibs in 3 months? I will need to join a gym but how do I find a gym and when is my deadline to achieve this goal?
The map for my weight loss goal is all mapped out and ready to go. Doing this ensures that I can create an attainable goal and visual think of my personal weight loss journey.
I can also map out my plan for the year 2020. Then list each of those goals then map them out individually. It’s pretty simple, and can take less than 10 minutes. Make sure its measurable, make it personal based on where you are and what you have. Commit to achieving the goals, and make sure you stick to it. I’m rooting for you.
