invest in your life

Invest: Actively participate in the life you desire

It’s time to stop being a victim and start being an active member in your own life. Invest in your choices, in people and in your time. Imagine you are driving a car and you feel no need to steer the wheels or engage the gears, would you reach your destination?
What if you don’t know where the destination is?  Does that mean you should leave the car to drive itself? Definitely not! Even when the path is unclear, you still need to make concerted effort to stay on the road.

Stay on the road!

Investing ensures that you do not drift aimlessly. Each time you identify a cause to pursue, a place where your passion is executed, you have a chance to participate in the future. Investing keeps you anchored to a course and helps you stay aligned long enough to determine where the right path is. You can always switch path if you are on the road but that may be hard if you leave your life’s vehicle to just drift and swerve aimlessly.
Invest in what?

This is not just about money and how you spend it.

It’s also about the people you associate with and where you spend the larger chunk of your time. Keep these three in mind:
1. Time

2. People

3. Energy
If you can invest the three listed things above in the right places, you are more likely to come out stronger and better. You have a greater chance of participating in your growth and shape your own future. Living a designed life involves active participation in your own life.

How A Creation Box Can Work For You

Bring to mind a time when you decided that you wanted something in your life; a vacation, a special book, or a household item. Did you notice that things relating to what you were wanting appeared out of nowhere–either you overheard someone talking about it, noticed an advertisement, a billboard or even junk mail? This, my friends, is the power of the Law of Attraction at work. The Law of Attraction states that all forms of matter and energy are attracted to that which is of a like vibration. “Like attracts like.” The thoughts we hold attract similar thoughts and become large masses of thoughts. These thoughts are also called vibrations.

I have been following the teaching of Abraham-Hicks, (one of the teachers of The Law of Attraction) for many years, and have adopted many of the suggestions offered from his work. Here is Abraham’s explanation of vibration.

If you’re wondering what you are vibrating, observe your life. It’s a perfect match. What you are living is what you are vibrating, without exception. So, if you’ve got something that you don’t want, identify what it is within your vibration that is giving it to you. The Law of Attraction is powerful, and whatever you are vibrating, the Universe will match.

One of the powerful tools I use from the Abraham teachings is the Creation Box. A Creation Box is simply a box or container where you store symbols, pictures, or descriptions, of your desires. Your Creation Box can be any size, shape, or color–it is for you to enjoy and have fun with. A Creation Box helps you purify your vibration; in other words, you become more focused on the desire you put in it. Fill your Creation Box with pictures you tear out of magazines, sketches, doodles, or special notes that describe what you want. As you begin to play with your Creation Box, you will be knocked over by the speed and efficiency with which the Law of Attraction responds to the desires you have placed in your box.

Whatever you are focusing on, be it real or imagined, causes you to vibrate–and that vibration is what the Law of Attraction accepts as your point of attraction. The Law of Attraction does not know or care why you are vibrating–it only responds to your vibration. You get more of what you want and you get more of what you don’t want. The Creation Box process helps you to think, feel, and vibrate MORE of what you desire. I’ve been using a Creation Box since 1995, placing into it things that I want while remembering that the key here is not to become attached to how it will come to me.

Recently, a friend of mine noticed my Creation Box in my home and was curious about its purpose and contents. After explaining its purpose, I opened it up to share some of the special things I wanted to manifest. To my delight, I realized that a number of magazine clippings and notes of things I had desired had already come to me!

I hosted a Creation Box building party at my home and each of us created a special box for our dreams and desires. I invite you to prepare your special Creation Box with your friends and family and watch your desires come to you in ways you couldn’t have imagined.

financial decisions

Financial: The Spend or Save riddle.

Americans usually don’t need to be prodded to spend. Over the last 30 years, Americans have maintained a spending rate far above other industrialized nations. In 2007, consumer spending peaked at slightly above 70 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while it only amounted to 55 percent of the GDP in Germany and Japan [source: Brockman]. – DAVE ROOS

Spending is not much of a problem for some while saving comes naturally to others. The main issue we have is how to decide which decision is best for us at a moment in time. The “Spend or Save Riddle” is commonly a source of headache. It becomes difficult to find the satisfaction we expected from our financial decisions. A lot of us wait for lucky money all our lives, but when it finally happens we don’t know what to do with it. How do you handle those moments when you happen on some profit and there is extra cash in the till?

Are you a Spender or Saver?

“Investment” is the constant buzz words, eventually we all want to be proud owners of investment. The problem is usually that time before we know what to invest in.  Imagine you finally make some huge sales, or your boss doles out bonuses or your long lost Uncle sends in some cash. Do you spend it immediately on your prime activity, or do you hoard it in hopes that you will make a wise investment someday?

It’s easier to be an impulsive when deciding whether to spend of save. Both are driven dependent on each person’s propensity, spending habits  or fear. The fear of missing out on every new thing and availability of credit pushes the unprepared spender to go way above his credit and end up in debt. If you are in the habit of upgrading on particular brand products, spending at a whim may come easily to you.  While the fear of not being able to keep up with economic demands, nudges some of us to extreme hoarding.

Both extremes could be totally unproductive and limiting. They affect your capacity to take financially sound decisions. Hoarding funds with a motive to save makes you feel guilty even when spending on your needs.  It’s important to understand the difference between frivolous spending and necessary spending.

How to Achieve a Balance?

Here are some interesting suggestions. You can actually determine when to spend and when to save by following these simple rules:

  1. Spenders: wait 24 hours: Give yourself permission to spend, but with one condition: wait one full day to see if you still feel the same about that purchase. This eliminates illogical or impulsive spending. “After 24 hours your emotions will have changed. If you still want to make the purchase it will be a logical one, not an emotional one,” says Prof Gillon. Give your spending decision some time, start with 24 hours.
  1. Savers: find a financial role model: Is anxious saving stopping you from enjoying life? Find someone whose financial strategy you admire and see what you can copy. “You’re unlikely to relate to someone at the other end of the ‘saver or spender’ spectrum,” says Prof Gillon, “so just pick someone whose balance seems better than yours.”
  2. Spend to Save: Financial experts say, people without debt should look at the “save or spend” riddle from a different perspective. Instead of using their money to consume, they should use it to invest. When economists talk about investing in this sense, they’re not talking about stocks and bonds. Instead, they’re talking about products and services purchased today that will save you money down the line. The mantra is “spend to save,” and here are some examples:
  • Purchase energy efficient products that would consume less energy.
  • Spending on quality clothing so you don’t have to replace every few months.
  • Do preventive maintenance on your vehicles, especially before the summer and winter months when cars are most susceptible to breakdowns.
  • Buy a nice water filter for your faucet instead of purchasing bottled water.

Its ultimately important that we find a balance between spending or saving. With the right support and knowledge you can live a more fulfilled life and experience financial satisfaction.

Las Vegas Global threat

LAS VEGAS SHOOTING: What Global threat does to the mind

CNN reports have it that 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, shot at and killed 50 people. This deadly shooting has also left more than 400 others injured in Las Vegas. This occurred on the Vegas strip while the country music festival was on. The Shooter was said to have shot and killed himself inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel room from where he fired the shots.

Our Thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. This is threat on a global scale, because the whole world is watching. You may have experienced this first hand; maybe as an eye witness. There are a lot of people also all over the world seeing this threat to humanity. This affects us all.

How is Your Mind?

This question sounds unconventional, we are used to asking “how are you?” The after math of terror attacks are more likely to affect your mind than you can imagine.

Terrorism is a psychological warfare. Terrorists try to manipulate us and change our behavior by creating fear, uncertainty, and division in society. Patrick J. Kennedy

Three things You are going to experience:

  1. Fear
  2. Uncertainty.
  3. Division.

The fear cripples productivity. Now everyone starts to think they might be the next victim, “What if you were the one at that shooting.” These thoughts could potentially make you depressed and fearful. The uncertainty of life becomes glaring and you are wondering if there is any guarantees. Life itself is a risk and only the bold get it to work. The more fearful and uncertain you are, the more you turn against people.

We are designed to work with people, and we are social beings. Terror tears us apart, makes us live in perpetual fear and lose our peace. The question is how is your mind? Are you aware that these subtle signals affect your capacity, and productivity? Do you need to share your fears with someone?

How to tap into your persuasive ability

According to John Baldoni If you need to make an argument about an issue about which you feel very strongly, don’t use rhetoric. Tell a story.

He gave an example, and here is it:

Representative Keith Ellison spoke to the press before hearings convened by Representative Peter King to investigate the radicalization of American Muslims in the United States. After making his case about why Muslims were being unjustly singled out by the hearings, Ellison closed his statement with a story about Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a paramedic who perished on 9/11 while trying to rescue those trapped in the Twin Towers. Ellison described how some sought to tarnish Hamdani’s sacrifice by calling attention to his Islamic faith. The story, and Ellison’s emotional delivery, helped make his message powerful.

This example shows how you can make a point without putting people on the defensive. It’s usually hard to look away from your goal for a bit but that’t what you need to do. Don’t be in a hurry to convince people, work on your story.

Why Persuasion is Necessary Skill

There is no career path or position you find yourself that does not require you to persuade others. The amount of belief people place in a path, determines how well it would succeed. If you are in business or at work, you need to be persuasive with your colleagues. At home, there are a lot of decisions that require the cooperation of every member. The more time you spend working on your persuasive ability, the less you spend resolving conflict.

A personal lesson

I remember during my service year, I had a plan to raise money for an orphanage visit. I talked to my boss and others to raise money for the visit, her reply has ever stuck with me. She said “you are the one who had an intention to reach out to orphans for your birthday, just go with the little you are able to raise and if others are interested, they should do the same but don’t expect such from people.” I am just paraphrasing her statements.

You must be willing to accept that most people don’t know your back story and they would need more convincing than you do. Learn to tell stories. Here are simple tips to keep in mind when building your delivery:

  1. Never be in a hurry to tell it all.
  2. Understand your audience.
  3. Determine the core message and present it as early as possible.
  4. Don’t bore people with details they do not need.
  5. Give the story life, use imagery and descriptions.
  6. Personalize your story.
  7. Make the listener feel they are part of the story.

The list continues, but you can work with this seven points listed above. Persuasion is the oil of every process. When it runs dry, the system starts to grind uncomfortably.

cheap acne removal secrets

8 Cheap natural secrets that remove Acne Scars

There are several ways of removing acne scars. The appearance of acne starts during puberty when the body actively produces hormones that causes too much sebum in the skin. This skin stage may pass but it would definitely leave marks to haunt your appearance forever. Treating acne scars can be done through natural and cheap methods. The methods described here are a lot cheaper compared to dermatological procedures that would probably cost a lot. However, acne scar treatment still depends on the mildness and severity of the scar.

Below are some of the techniques on removing acne scars naturally:

1. Hydration is the key. It has been proven that water is one of the best natural methods for removing acne scars and prevent acne breakouts. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water or more helps your skin to shed those unwanted dead skin cells.

2. Use Vitamin E capsule for those scars. You might apply it topically to the affected area by pricking a spot in the capsule and apply the oil to the scar. Another option is to take it orally to have that cell renewal from the inside.

3. Rosehip seed oil is also an effective remedy This is an anti-aging and anti-wrinkling oil which helps the skin to regenerate. Massage it on the scar twice a day.

4. Eating a balance diet. The more nutritious foods you include in your meal, the faster the scar will heal. It helps in building the skin cells and gives a healthy skin glow as well.

5. Combine rose water and sandal wood paste. Apply it on the spot where the scars are. Leave it overnight then rinse with cold water the next day.

Apart from the natural ways of removing acne scars, there are also dermatological procedures that would definitely give the same results. However, pregnancy and other health conditions might hinder undergoing some of them.

Here is a list of our favorite ones:

6. Dermabrasion is the removal of the top skin layer using a machine that chafes off the skin. Once the skin heals, the top layer will then have a smoother and clearer appearance.

7. Laser resurfacing is one of the most affordable anti-scar treatments available. It simply uses a high-energy light that would remove the fine scars and even prevent wrinkles.

8. Chemical peel is just like dermabrasion the only difference is that the top layer of the skin is peeled off using chemicals not machines. This is not a very advisable procedure since some people may have allergic reactions to the chemicals.

It’s your choice whether you would opt for the natural way or the dermatological way of acne scar reduction.

life crumbles sometimes

Life puzzles you then crumbles like a pack of cards. – Story.

I met Lizzy two years ago. She was the life of the party, daring, skinny and very dramatic. We were pretty much the same and we hit it off fast. I don’t know why she trusted me with the details of her life. It wasn’t that I had my life under control, I just felt honoured each time she pulled me aside to have a conversation. One day she reached out to me. Her voice was shaky on the phone and I could not understand what she was saying so I rushed over to her place. It was a few blocks away. The door was slightly open when I walked in. Her room was a mess, she was on the floor holding on to a bottle. I rushed over to her side. I was greeted by the strong smell of alcohol coming from her mouth.

What is wrong? I asked.

My life is over. She said with tears pouring down her soft cheeks leaving dark traces of mascara on them. I rebuked her. Whatever it was, surely wasn’t that serious. I was worried about her. Yes, she was the life of the party but I knew she avoided alcohol like I avoided crawling animals. Seeing her in that state was very much disturbing. I got her up and to the bath, and I made sure she brushed her teeth. When she was fully dressed and sober, she opened up to me.

Lizzy had been in a relationship with a guy, she met him at an interview four years ago. She got the job while he did not. He had moved on to something else and they both worked in different capacities. They were in love and she had given her all to ensure that it stayed that way. They lived for each other and they had started making plans to spend the rest of their lives together. The few times I met Victor I thought he was a nice and kind man. I had no reason to doubt his sincerity of heart. He made her happy. She did same. I was only happy when they had decided on their dates.

Then on that day, Lizzy had left work early to retrieve a document she had forgotten at his place. You guessed right. She returned heartbroken. Victor was home but he wasn’t home alone. He had his pregnant fiancée at home with him and he was massaging her. Unfortunately, he left the door open. She was devastated and left him. Lizzy tried to pick up the pieces but not before crying her eyes out. Four years of happiness suddenly became history. Since that day she has never been the same.

No one has a clear picture of what others are going through- their challenges and struggles. It may seem trivial, you may be unmoved by their stories but it matters to them in that moment. We are all broken, the least you can do is to be a source of comfort. No one should have to pick up the pieces all by themselves. Life would be so much easier if we all give our love and attention to those who need it.

8 Tips to Save Money on Groceries

The average family’s grocery bill is usually one of the higher numbers on the family budget. There can be an enormous difference in what each family spends on their groceries, depending on many factors, such as whether they buy organic, kosher, Gluten free, more meat, etc.

The good news is that this allows for a large amount of savings if we decide to be frugal with our shopping. Following a few simple tips will have you well on your way to saving a few bucks.

1.) Make a meal plan. You’ll know exactly what you need from the store before you go.

2.) Watch for specials and coupons in store newsletters, and plan your meals around them.

3.) Make a list and stick to it. If it’s not on the list, don’t buy it.

4.) Don’t shop when you’re hungry. That way you won’t be tempted to buy things that you don’t need.

5.) Shop alone. Count on your bill being higher when you bring your spouse or children.

6.) Only buy things you know you’ll use. For example, if your family doesn’t like broccoli, don’t buy broccoli in the hopes that they’ll eat healthier this week.

7.) Keep your eyes on the items on the bottom shelf where the prices are lower.

8.) Buy store brands when the quality is the same. Most of the time, it actually is the same product in a different package.

It’s pretty easy to be frugal once you realize how much money you’re actually saving with these simple steps. Keep a log of your grocery bills, so you can see how much of a difference you are making.

life starts while you are single

Life starts while you are single, Live.

Recently, a classmate of mine walked up to me beaming with smiles. “Hi dear, I would like to inform you about my wedding coming up in October. I know it is still months away but I just want to ensure you are carried along.”

Of course, many congratulations and hugs came up as I received the news. It was great news that finally, someone from our class was getting married. It also brought to mind many other friends, in different courses, who had gotten married or were also about to.
It was interesting and also a bit sobering.

I wondered, did they really enjoy the single phase of their lives? Did they find fulfillment in those years of being independent and alone? Or were they so occupied with life and the scurry to walk down the aisle?

The Hustle

I once mentioned to a friend that marriage is not compulsory. His response made it seem like I just blasphemed. He is not alone in his school of thought. That school of thought that considers marriage the highest form of fulfillment and a do or die affair. I am not anti-marriage but I am not hinging my life on ensuring I get married at all costs. Neither should anyone.

Marriage is beautiful and so is all that comes with it; spending your years with that person you delight in so much, having a great home, wonderful kids, growing old together and being loved. Awesome! Caution though! This picture should not be so highly exalted in our minds that we cast a dark and dull luster on our bachelorhood and spinsterhood.

Being single is amazing if you make it so. It is that period when you can discover yourself, engage in life building activities and make friends, connections, real life world wide webs that always come into play later on.

This is the time to explore the world or at least places you have never been to. By yourself. Not waiting till there is someone else who may or may not be excited by the things that excite you on these trips.

Self-Evaluate First

Also, ask yourself, what am I bringing to the table of marriage if/when the time comes? This applies to both male and female. A holy writ talks of iron sharpening iron. If you are made up of just wood and you are looking for iron, I wonder what sort of sharpening is to be expected.

You want someone mature? Be mature!
You want someone financially stable? Be financially stable!
You want a funny person? Find your humour!

These things and others are done and gotten while single and even though they can continue when one is married, a foundation built while single will go a long way to make things easier and better. You have to also realize that it is that ‘YOU’ from your being single that you are carrying into the marriage. Yes, there are opportunities for upgrades but that default operating system still holds some sway.

So, while you are single, live life. Fully. This does not give a license for a reckless life.
Make life count! Being single is part of life, make it count!

5 Hurricane Harvey relief efforts you could join

One of the biggest challenges for many people is how to know the roles we can play in times of disaster. A lot of families have suffered much and also lost a lot to Hurricane Harvey. Those of us who had the opportunity of seeing some live feeds from Houston would know that much damage was done. It’s natural that you want to know some of the relief efforts going on and how you could be a part of these efforts so we have compiled a list here:

1. The Greater Houston Community Foundation, for example, is collecting donations to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, established by Mayor Sylvester Turner. This fund was established in response to a lot of inquiries from companies and individuals like you seeking opportunities to help. Read more here.

2. Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, is providing support for the Harvey victims and are also open to donations. Read more here.
3. The Greenville restaurant community is coming together with Brunch for a Cause on Labor Day, Sept. 4. This event is an effort at raising funds for sending relief to Houston families. Seventeen restaurants are providing staff, food and resources to make this event happen. 100% of the returns go to the Red Cross. Read more here.
4. Avon Hurricane Harvey Relief fund is sending relief via on-line purchase of gift bags. You can send some relief with just $10. The Avon Hurricane Relief Package will help fund an assortment of critical personal care products and housewares items that Avon will transport to area shelters on your behalf. Read more here.
5. Brene Brown is also doing something really out of the box. This lovely writer and influencer is collecting underwear donations to be distributed at shelters by BakerRipley. You can check her Facebook page for more details.

It’s a bit sad that we also have to warn readers to exercise discretion with donations. Some charities have raised concerns that donations to some long-standing charity organizations like the Red Cross may not be reaching grassroots. We hope these claims are not true. Here are also two (2) other resources you could check out for listing of accredited charities:

1. Better Business Bureau has compiled a list of accredited organizations and charities. The page also compiles a few useful tips that could guide you in your charity spending.

2. Frontstream also has a list of organizations which their employees recommend for charity donations.

This post does not in any way endorse or recommend any charity organization. We just want to provide you with some direction on what to do now that Houston needs you.

You can share this article if you found it resourceful. We keep praying for Houston.

Harvey flood
K1RX7A National guardsmen rescue stranded residents after massive flooding from record rains overwhelmed roads and buildings throughout the city after Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast August 27, 2016 in Houston, Texas.
